Tumblrdämmerung Update

At the moment I'm focusing on moving my stuff over to Pillowfort, and then to AO3, and then this one is gonna be tertiary. I don't really know whether I'll mostly end up using PF or DW but probably the former if only because a) reglogging makes discovery MUCH easier and b) DW doesn't really have native image hosting, which is kind of a problem for an artist.

DW does have native image hosting tho...

Has PF resolved the whole "webhost doesn't allow explicit images" thing?

Isn't it limited to 500 MB though? That runs out quick.

They're still on the .io for now; no word on when they'll be changing the tld. Not that it's stopped people from uploading explicit images, though; you just have to opt in to see them.

currently yes, it's limited to 500 mb. They're looking into raising the cap though.

Yeah, 500mb isn't a problem for me b/c I downsize my images anyway. I think it comes from getting on the internet back in the 28.8 modem days -- I panic a bit when an image of mine is >300kb, and seeing 2mb images physically hurts me

I just checked my .psd directory and the largest file is 194 MB. >_> On the other hand, I resize things for web display so things I'm going to post average 2-6 MB. Reaction .gifs average half that. So at an overall an average of 3 MB/image, that 500 MB would be good for ~167 images. I don't think I'm going to be as active here to start with as I was on Tumblr, and there's no reblogging here, so that's a few months worth of usage. But then, I used LJ for 8 years, Tumblr for 7...if I had run out of the ability to post images that I didn't have to hotlink from someone else within my first year of using Tumblr I would have quit. It was okay for LJ but it's not 2003 anymore.

haha, makes sense. My art works better for jpgs and I'm pretty anti-png (except for transparency needs), which is why I can squeak by with smaller sizes. I did hear that you can freely hotlink from discord and newgrounds tho.
